Modulating Float Valves

Modulating Float Valves

The model 1400 modulating Float Valve is a hydraulically operated,  diaphragm  actuated, control valve that allows flow into the tank (reservoir) in order to maintain the level at the designated maximum. The valve modulates to maintain the tank level. As the reservoir level drops the main valve is open proportionally to increase the filling rate.

The Float Valve modulates to maintain a constant liquid level in a storage tank by compensating for variations in supply or demand. It can be installed to control either the flow into or out of the tank. This valve is hydraulically operated. The Pilot System consists of Remote Mounted Float pilot. A slight change in liquid level moves the float pilot arm in a vertical position. This action varies the pressure in the valve cover, causing the main valve to seek a new position.

Operating Principals of ACVs

Valve Closing: When the pilot closes water is trapped inside the bonnet and the main valve disc will be forced to close.

Valve Opening: When the pilot opens water is released from the bonnet allowing the main valve disc to open.

Valve Modulating: The main valve will mimic the small pilot valve. When the latter partially closes the main valve does the same and vice versa. The pilot valve reacts to a change in external signal received from the system. This signal might cause the pilot valve disc to partially close (hence closing the main valve) or to partially open.
